Transcribed and annotated by C. Leon Harris [From Revolutionary bounty-warrant records in the Library of Virginia.] Henrico County
To Wit. Before me a Magistrate for the said
County, personally appeared in the County aforesaid, Alexander Childers [sic:
Alexander Childress, pension application W10604] a soldier of the Revolution
who made Oath in due form of law That he knew Captain
Jacob Winfree formerly of the County of Powhatan or
Cumberland. That the said Winfree at an early period
of the Revolution entered into the Continental service of his country as a
Captain of Infantry, and recruited a Company of men, which he marched to the
South, perhaps South Carolina or George, and what became of him afterward he
does not know: whether he was killed, died in service or whether he served to
the end of the war, said Childers does not know but believes Captain Winfree has been dead for many years. Given under my hand
this 28 th day of November
